1. What do you value most about being a part of EWO?
I value everything about EWO! I genuinely appreciate being part of a close-knit community to share best practice, and the chance to connect with colleagues who are dealing with similar challenges and opportunities. I enjoy working with the board to find ways for EWO to move forward in a positive direction, while responding to the needs of our members.
2. Other than EWO, what other association or groups are you a part of? What roles do you play?
From the time I was a young girl, I truly enjoyed opportunities to volunteer with my family and friends. Whether it was supporting community organizations, fundraising activities, or special events, I continue to do much of this today. At Sheridan I love volunteering on college-wide committees, they are such amazing opportunities to contribute to the broader community, and to build many long-lasting relationships across the institution. I have so much fun walking down the halls at any of our campus locations because I always run into a few people that I know!
3. How many years you have been working in Co-op/WIL/EL?
Well… it’s been a few years, over 20 years in fact! There’s something special about working in post-secondary education. I started at Sheridan College in 2001 as a job developer, moved into various positions in between, and most recently I’ve been building a new unit for Sheridan, Work-Integrated and Experiential Learning Services. I was the first staff member to be hired in this area of work and have been living my dream with the opportunity to grow the department that now consists of over 20 staff and co-op students.
4. Tell us a little bit about your career and why you do what you do?
I love working with students in post-secondary education, and I’m so grateful to be working with an amazing team, who share the same sense of purpose; ultimately helping students to explore their careers, gain work experience and get a job! I love what I do because it always relates to students and how we can enhance the student experience
5. We work with a talented group of individuals across the province who are passionate about the work they do. What do you consider your ‘super powers’?
Such a fun question! I would say my super powers are my ability to lead multiple projects and teams simultaneously, demonstrating my initiative, strategic thinking and team building abilities. I’m passionate about life-long learning, student success and career education.
6. Who are you outside of work? Where would we find you on a weekend or holiday?
I’m a wife, mom, friend and family member that enjoys cooking, baking and entertaining at our home, especially around the pool in the summer months. I also enjoy a round of golf, staying active as much as possible, and I’m pretty sure I’m a chocoholic!
7. Anything else that you’d like our membership to know about you?
I always enjoy connecting with people and colleagues with shared interests, and I’m happy to receive an email or coffee chat invite anytime. Feel free to connect with me!
